Observe the nesting and hatching of turtles on our beachside campsite.
Located at the heart of the Maputaland Turtle Sanctuary, Bhanga Nek plays a crucial role in ensuring the survival of these species. One of the most awe-inspiring natural occurrences that take place here are the nesting and hatching of sea turtles. As the summer begins, female turtles return to the beach they were born on and lay their eggs under the cover of darkness. Approximately 65 days later, the hatchlings emerge and embark on a treacherous journey towards the ocean. To witness this remarkable event, visitors can enlist the services of local turtle guides, who have been granted concessions to accompany them onto the beach at night.
